How does NC-Finish work?

There are only very few CAM systems available that allow the creation of 3D programs in the shape of arcs. Normally, these systems generate the tool path the conventional way by using points. They then systematically adapt arcs interpolated with very diverse radii following a tolerance default.

One problem with this method is the fact that the transitional areas from one radius to the next or into a linear movement are often not, or almost not, taken into account. After calculation, the programs are worked off by the CNC machine as circular interpolations (G2/G3) .

COSCOM have developed a software package called "Finish universal" for all those companies that do not get any or insufficient G2/G3 output from their CAM systems. Finish universal can import NC programs from virtually any CAM systems and from that instantly generates optimised data in the shape of adapted arcs.

What can you expect from NC-Finish?

  • Considerably improved milling surfaces without bevelling, resulting in greatly reduced finishing times.
  • Up to 80% faster finishing on traditional CNC milling machines.
  • Greatly improved machine dynamics leading to much higher working feeds.
  • Complete control of feed rates, which reliably prevents lag errors even with high work feeds.
  • As a rule 80 to 96% reduction in milling programs. This often enables transfer into the control system memory without having to either segment or pack the data.
  • Considerably lower machine load and fewer repairs, leading to longer machine life expectancy.
  • Aprox. 20 to 30% faster finishing times on state-of-the-art high-speed finishing centres.
